Ripple Labs Inc hires Google’s RCS head

Ripple Labs Inc, a blockchain technology startup on Saturday revealed to Reuters that they have hired Amir Sarhangi, Google’s head of RCS or rich communications services.

According to the report, he has been hired as the Vice President of products at Ripple.

The main intention towards hiring Sarhangi is to develop a global payments network called RippleNet.

The San Francisco based company is happy and excited to hire Sarhangi to lead a team of developers of Ripple.

Through Google’s acquisition Jibe Mobile, Sarhangi joined Google in 2015. Jibe mobile was a startup founded by Sarhangi. He led that “developed technology for wireless carriers to adopt RCS.”

RCS is seen better as a “successor” to the age-old texting technology SMS because it can handle both multimedia and commercial messages. Receipts, airline boarding passes, and others are examples of RCS.

For Google, RCS is a major revenue generator and hence has partnered with a number of device makers and wireless carriers to introduce RCS.

Apple has however obstructed the adoption of RCS on iPhones. Similarly, Samsung also supports the technology in its own limits.

Google, however, did not comment on who it is going to replace as head of RCS following Sarhangi’s exit.

According to a recent report by BC Focus, Ripple’s sales increased from $73.53 million from Q2 to $163.33 million in Q3, which was a whopping 122% increase in sales.

“The increase in the total sales was the result of a massive rise in institutional direct sales of 481.3%, compared to a smaller 15.2% rise in programmatic sales,” read the report

Another BC Focus report revealed that XRP launched its own cryptocurrency exchange where XRP will act as the base against all trading pairs. The name of the first XRP-based exchange is known as XRP United.
